GI Blythe Offers Free New Instrumental Single for the Holiday Season: “Unsure”

GI Blythe, one of the funkyist bands on the scene today, is offering a free holiday instrumental digital download written by leader and founder Geoff Blythe as a New Year’s gift for their fans.  Their new single release “Unsure” is a great dance tune, perfect for all your holiday celebrations that is sure to get the party rolling and listeners out of their seats and into the festive mood of the holiday season.  In the wake of a highly successful national radio campaign and last year’s triumphant CD release tour of the East Coast for their successful CD Lost in Space, GI Blythe will be offering further free song downloads in the months to come, so stay tuned!  As many fans are already aware, GI Blythe is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive musical backgrounds who’ve come together to fuse a high-energy hybrid of wit and horn-centric good-time funky Rock, amply established on Lost In Space and further confirmed with their new release “Unsure”.

Lost in Space is an exhilarating introduction to a band that has already piqued some discerning ears and raised some diverse eyebrows.  And now “Unsure” extends that phenomena with the band’s trademark spot-on funkified/rocking drums, bad-ass bass, tight syncopated guitar rhythms and scorching high-flight horns.  Just like the cuts on Lost in Space, “Unsure” just might bring you out of your chair.  So be forewarned:  before you put on this music be sure to put on your dancing shoes!
GI Blythe: Lost In Space
GI Blythe is a band of exceptional players from the U.K. and the U.S. that have outrageous chops and share a pure joy of making music that is both exuberant and street savvy.  Several members of GI Blythe have worked together in various music settings over the years—including Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Black 47—and along with Geoffrey Blythe have collectively played and/or recorded with a number of diverse artists from Elvis Costello, Paul Simon and Nick Lowe to Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and The Funk Brothers (of Motown fame), to name but a few.  The band’s foundation is provided by drummer Crispin ‘the Pump’ Taylor and bassist Joe ‘Bear Claw’ Burcaw—and these guys cook!  They provide a solid pocket that energetically propels the band and allows lead singer Archie Brown and the horns of Blythe and ‘Big Jim’ Paterson (trombone & backup vocals), along with the keys of Pete Levin and guitars of Larry Baeder, to alternately punch the rhythm section and float above the smooth ride effortlessly.  Although the band’s players are accomplished pros, they retain a raucous, authentic post-punk attitude resulting in a sound that’s soulful, sometimes Jazzy (with tasteful flashes of dissonance—and a funky beat!), rockin’ and audacious—all at the same time!
In these sometimes ‘unsure’ times add some sure joy to this holiday’s jubilations by bringing in the new year with the sure-fire funky beat and celebratory sounds of “Unsure”!

Rahman Altin’s Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for ‘The Butterfly’s Dream’ to be Released in USA

The original motion picture soundtrack for the Turkish blockbuster drama The Butterfly’s Dream was released on CD and digitally in the United States on November 7, 2013.  Composed, arranged and produced by celebrated Turkish feature film, TV, and video game composer Rahman Altin, the film’s epic soundtrack immediately became No. 1 on Turkey’s music charts following its release and has since won the World Soundtrack Academy’s ‘Public Choice Award’ for 2013.  Altin’s score is earnest and majestic, an emotionally provoking rainbow of orchestral textures and lyrical motifs, both introspective and exhilarating in its often quiet beauty and spacious appeal.  Performed exquisitely here by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Miriam Nemcova, the solo piano parts are played subtly and expressively by the composer himself.

Award winning composer, arranger and producer Rahman Altin is a dynamic presence in the world of music creation, successfully scoring for film, TV and video games.  Along with his recent scoring of The Butterfly’s Dream he’s worked on numerous campaigns, trailers and projects, including Iron-Man 3, The Amazing Spiderman, The Green Lantern, Monsters vs. Aliens and the miniseries The Pacific.  Additionally, the venerable Lucas Film company licensed his music for the Star Wars BluRay campaign and Rahman has also won several "Best Film Music" awards for his brilliant score for the feature film Waiting for Heaven.

Rahman Altin's interest in music manifested itself at an early age, influenced by his father, a musician, and his mother, a poet and painter.  During his college years he started to explore merging work on a synthesizer and computer with his classical education.  After finishing music conservatory he sang as a tenor at the Ankara State Opera, while composing and arranging his first projects.  Now living in both Los Angeles and Istanbul, he is the first and only musician from Turkey to participate in the Film Scoring Workshop sponsered by ASCAP and Fox.  He is also dedicated to nurturing young talent by serving on numerous juries for international film & TV awards.

Renowned Director/Writer/Actor Yilmaz Ertoğan’s The Butterfly’s Dream was released in February, 2013, and was subsequently selected to represent Turkey as its entry for Best Foreign Language Film for 2014’s Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.  The Butterfly’s Dream is the most expensive film ever to be produced in Turkey and this commitment is reflected in its impeccable production values, epic music and sensational response at the Istanbul Film Festival.

Back Alley Players to Perform Free Concert at Goddard Riverside Community Center in NYC

In support of their highly acclaimed CD Beyond the Blues Back Alley Players will be performing a free concert at the Goddard Riverside Community Center in NYC on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.  Back Alley Players is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of musical backgrounds from Jazz and Funk, to Hip-Hop and R&B.  But make no mistake, this tight and tasty ensemble is creating a joyful blues for the 21st century that draws on many of the disparate elements of traditional blues which are rarely heard in one setting.  And this is exquisitely demonstrated on their successful CD release Beyond the Blues.

Beyond the Blues is a fantastic and fresh debut . . .
Jon Norton, Music Director at WGLT, Normal, IL, for Blues Blast Magazine

At the Goddard Center the Back Alley Players’ rhythm section will feature drummer Stix Bones and bassist Al Brisbane—and what a foundation these players provide!  They create a pocket that effortlessly propels the band and allows singers L. Umar Conry and ShiNuh Holt, and guitarist Johnny Turco, along with the band’s surprise special guest keyboardist, to put the icing on the cake as they glide on that propulsion like an ice cube on a hot stove.  As Blues Blast Magazine has pointed out in reference to Beyond the Blues, these dudes “deliver one of the tastiest and schizophrenic soul and country blues releases since, well, ever.”  Back Alley Players are a soulful combination of the talents and energy of a group of very impressive individuals who form a flawless, seamless whole.

The baddest band to bring you Nuttin’ But the BluesNick Ashford of Ashford & Simpson

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch a live performance by the Back Alley Players.  Putting on Beyond the Blues at a party is a sure bet, and seeing Back Alley Players live is an experience that you won’t soon forget.

GI Blythe Offers Another Free Song Download: “Hundred Dollar Bill”

Following GI Blythe’s recent announcement to provide periodic free music downloads of songs from their successful CD release Lost in Space, they are now offering another free song download, this one written by lead singer Archie Brown.  “Hundred Dollar Bill” is a driving up-tempo rocker, a working man’s lament from a man who works a grinding double shift and can’t seem to get his penny-pinching boss to pay him on time, and who ultimately faces losing his job to a worker more desperate than himself who’s willing to work for even less.  In the wake of a highly successful national radio campaign and last year’s triumphant CD release tour of the East Coast, beginning with a CD release party at Connolly’s Klub 45 in New York City and closing with a CD release concert at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY, GI Blythe will be offering further free song downloads in the months to come, so stay tuned!  As many fans are already aware, GI Blythe is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive musical backgrounds who’ve come together to fuse a high-energy hybrid of wit and horn-centric good-time Rock, which is amply demonstrated on Lost in Space.
Lost in Space is an exhilarating introduction to a band that has already piqued some discerning ears and raised some diverse eyebrows.  Along with the scorching rocker “Hundred Dollar Bill” the CD contains other original tunes written by Blythe, Archie Brown & Jim Paterson—including the instrumental “Freedom March” with some swinging, scorching Jazzy moments—and their funky and haunting “The Narrative of G. Bristol Groot (Vampyre)” (also a video available on YouTube), which like many cuts on the album just might bring you out of your chair.  So be forewarned:  before you put on this music be sure to put on your dancing shoes!
