GI BLYTHE PROVIDES ANOTHER FREE SONG DOWNLOAD: “LOST IN SPACE”

GI BLYTHE PROVIDES ANOTHER FREE
SONG DOWNLOAD: “LOST IN SPACE”

Following GI Blythe’s recent announcement to provide periodic free music downloads of songs from their successful CD release Lost in Space, and the offering of their first, “Run Rabbit Run,” they are now providing a second free song written by Geoff Blythe. The title cut “Lost in Space” is an ethereal and majestic mosaic that charts a man’s existential journey through the cosmic fabric of life and creation only to realize that he is “lost.” In the wake of a highly successful national radio campaign and last year’s triumphant CD release tour of the East Coast, beginning with a CD release party at Connolly’s Klub 45 in New York City and closing with a CD release concert at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY, GI Blythe will be offering further free song downloads in the months to come, so stay tuned! As many fans are already aware, GI Blythe is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive musical backgrounds who’ve come together to fuse a high-energy hybrid of wit and horn-centric good-time Rock, which is amply demonstrated on Lost in Space.

Lost in Space is an exhilarating introduction to a band that has already piqued some discerning ears and raised some diverse eyebrows. Along with the humorously macabre “Run Rabbit Run” and the imagistic “Lost in Space” the CD contains other original tunes written by Blythe, Archie Brown & Jim Paterson—including the instrumental “Freedom March” with some swinging, scorching Jazzy moments—and their funky and haunting “The Narrative of G. Bristol Groot (Vampyre)” (also a video available on YouTube), which like many cuts on the album just might bring you out of your chair. So be forewarned: before you put on this music be sure to put on your dancing shoes!

GI Blythe is a band of exceptional players from the U.K. and the U.S. that have outrageous chops and share a pure joy of making music that is both exuberant and street savvy. Several members of GI Blythe have worked together in various music settings over the years—including Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Black 47—and along with Geoffrey Blythe have collectively played and/or recorded with a number of diverse artists from Elvis Costello, Paul Simon and Nick Lowe to Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and The Funk Brothers (of Motown fame), to name but a few. The band’s foundation is provided by drummer ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬Crispin ‘the Pump’ Taylor and bassist Joe ‘Bear Claw’ Burcaw—and these guys cook! They provide a solid pocket that energetically propels the band and allows lead singer Archie Brown and the horns of Blythe and ‘Big Jim’ Paterson (trombone & backup vocals), along with the keys of Pete Levin and guitars of Larry Baeder, to alternately punch the rhythm section and float above the smooth ride effortlessly. Although the band’s players are accomplished pros, they retain a raucous, authentic post-punk attitude resulting in a sound that’s soulful, sometimes Jazzy (with tasteful flashes of dissonance—and a funky beat!), rockin’ and audacious—all at the same time!

What/When: “Lost in Space” available NOW for FREE!

Fremont John

Redwood Entertainment congratulates Fremont John for making it into the top 10 on the ReverbNation National Chart!

“Tampa Bay’s most seasoned and professional original singer/songwriter.” – MusicTampaBay.com
A distinctive acoustic guitar style with the resonate growl of a baritone voice is reason enough to listen to the music of Fremont John. Add to it his penchant for taking the classic songs we all know and creating them in his own style and you have a captivating show of musical ability. Developing his musical talents since age 5, he’s played the music of the classical greats to the rock hall of famers and now pen’s his own music with the richness of his life experiences weaving a variety of styles into his own.
As an electric guitar rock-n-roller during his early career Fremont John toured extensively throughout the Midwest with his band Innervision. Taking a break from regular performance and touring for nearly 25 years, he continued to perform sporadically at venues throughout Michigan while writing some of the songs that became part of his first CD, ACOUSTIC THUNDER, released in 1999. That same year Fremont John returned to full time performance, honing a professional music career on the stages of the popular Key West venues. He continues to be a favorite both solo and trio performer at Sloppy Joe’s, The Bull, Virgilio’s and Willy T’s in Key West where he still does a monthly tour.
Record producer Larry Baeder, wowed by FJ’s songwriting, initiated a collaboration with deeply talented seasoned musicians and recording technicians in NYC’s Pyramid Studio in 2004. The 2005 indie CD release of TIMELINE included Richard Crooks (Dr John, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan) on drums, Fernando Saunders (Lou Reed, Pat Benatar, Jeff Beck, Jan Hammer) on bass, Charlie Giordano (Bruce Springsteen, Pat Benatar) adding keyboard, Crispin Cioe (Joe Cocker, Rolling Stones) on sax, with Larry Baeder (James Montgomery, Carly Simon, Apollo Theater House) adding electric guitar licks. This collaboration resulted in a national radio campaign with airplay in many US cities and global airplay via hundreds of Internet stations. The CD received strong reviews in the industry and continues to enjoy strong sales at live shows and online.
GUITAR SONGS, the first all-instrumental effort, was brought on by years of requests from fans for “more guitar!”. The CD features Fremont John’s identifiable melodic and distinctive acoustic style that captivates his live audience. Tampa Bay’s premier online music e-zine, The Bay Buzz (www.thebaybuzz.org) writes, “John’s sound is clean and his acoustic lead tone is wonderful; clear and crisp but also warm. And then, “If you enjoy melodic acoustic guitar, buy this disc. “A good instrumental CD is difficult to make but this one (Guitar Songs) is excellent.” – Pete Gallagher, WMNF 88.5FM, Tampa, FL
Fremont John’s solo live performance is a relaxed and comfortable way to kick back and enjoy the music. Whether it’s a remake of a classic or an original selection, the guitar work is sure to please and the stories surrounding the songs are delightfully entertaining. When backed by a rhythm section for a trio sound it’s sure to be a rocking good time as he incorporates an ‘electric’ sound into his trademark Blue Taylor acoustic guitar. With an uncanny ability to ‘read’ his audience, Fremont John tailors his vast musical selections to the mood of his listeners like a master entertainer.
Fremont John: Contrarian
A collection of uniquely arranged classic hits and well penned originals ranging from foot tapping rock to thought provoking ballads, and of course, the impressive guitar work.
He will return to his home in Northern Michigan September 2012 to host the Second Annual Fremont John and Friends Concert to benefit the local food bank. Last year’s show raised over $7,000 and took in over 800lbs of food to benefit the hungry in Mason County. A full stage show with a 9 piece backing line up delighted last year’s audience. The second show promises to offer even more as he continues to pull in the younger set in the community for exposure.
Fremont John has received many accolades from industry notables to his ‘Contrarian’ fan club. His uniquely down to earth and easy-going style makes him a sought after performer across the country.

Derrick N. Ashong & Soulfège

Derrick N. Ashong & Soulfège

If you have been wondering where you might find fresh sounds and heavy-duty lyrics that surpass in sum and substance the increasingly monotone world of much of urban music today, search no more.  Enter the eclectic and electrifying world of Derrick N. Ashong & Soulfège.  Their work exemplifies more than music; it's a movement.  Yet they are a band of blisteringly creative and talented musicians from a diversity of backgrounds, and they have brought together a dynamic amalgam of musical styles, amply exhibited on their new CD release, AFropolitan.

"Here are musicians, poised with a positive vibe and with lyrics so uplifting that you actually believe . . . a new world mood may emerge from the street and the Net, somehow defying the odds—a spirit of promise and hope and harmony, a spirit that denies dissonance. Soulfège lets us dream such sweet dreams, in vibrant colors."VanityFair.com

The band is a critically-acclaimed, refreshingly original group of musicians who have synthesized a blend of Hip-Hop, Reggae, Funk, World Beat and West African Highlife music to create a musical mélange of style and substance.  This dynamic six-piece ensemble—propelled by drumming phenomenon Stix ‘Mr. Pocket’ Bones, rock-solid Berklee grad & Funk/Rock bassist Alex Staley, Ghanaian percussion prodigy Atta Addo, and keyboard wizard Micah Hulscher—combines driving rhythms, authentic musicianship, the crisp harmonies of Ashong and Jonathan M. Gramling and provocatively elevating lyrics, a combination that transcends even the most imaginative of descriptive capacities.  They are a powerful live act and a vivid new voice that has perpetually ignited audiences with their joyous ‘Afropolitan’ fusion.
Derrick N. Ashong & Soulfège embody the pluralistic vision of a new generation of music makers and socially conscious activists.  Leader and co-founder Derrick N. Ashong, a.k.a. DNA, dubbed “a YouTube phenom” by the New York Times, is former host of The Derrick Ashong Experience on Oprah radio and Al-Jazeera English’s cutting-edge social media TV show The Stream, where he scooped some of the biggest social change stories in the world today, winning a Webbie & a Royal Television Society (RTS) Award for Innovation.  The Ghana-born, Oprah-endorsed Harvard graduate originally formed Soulfège with college choir mate Jonathan M. Gramling.  Subsequently they created Take Back the Mic™, a movement to put meaning back into today's music and to challenge a new generation of youth to find their own voice and take on roles of leadership in society.

"Its [Soulfège’s] members realized they had the platform to reach ears not only with their music—a fusion of thumping African music and rhythms, sweet reggae breezes, funk, and hip-hop—but also with their message."   The Boston Globe

With the advent of 2012, events have been moving at a furious pace for DNA and Soulfège.  Among their most recent accomplishments is the launch of their Million Download Campaign which has netted over 50,000 free downloads of songs and remixes from AFropolitan since its end-of-January launch, with downloads from over 50 countries worldwide. Fast Company Magazine recently featured DNA in an interview entitled, “Derrick Ashong on Going Viral Again and Again.”  The Campaign held events presenting their innovations in music promotion & distribution as part of “Social Media Week” in New York and Washington DC in February.  Ashong was an invited speaker to present the Campaign at Google Headquarters in California during the same month.  In the first week of AFropolitan's release on broadcast radio, the album placed in the Top 50 of the JazzWeek World Music Charts, and their short animated film for the song “Love Rain Down” was accepted into the Palm Beach International Film Festival and World Music International Film Festival for 2012.  And if all this was not enough, “Easy Does It,” another cut from the CD, took a finalist slot in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest; Ashong was identified by Tonya Pendleton at BlackAmericaWeb.com as one of “Five Brilliant Brothers You Should Know by Now”; the band performed at Club de Madrid’s gala dinner honoring former President Bill Clinton with the Democratic Leadership Award; and more recently, they appeared at the NXNE Music Festival in Toronto.

Soulfège’s music and their social movement have been featured in such major media as VanityFair.com, MTV Africa, NPR, The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, MNet Africa, ABC Chronicle and BBC Worldservice, reaching 146 million listeners worldwide.  See for yourself what all the buzz is about and be sure to download and share their latest CD release, AFropolitan for free at www.derrickashong.com.

Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus

Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus

The wildly popular Key West based band, Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus, is Americana Music at its finest. They combine well crafted, timeless songwriting, vocals from the heart and disciplined arrangements, with flashes of virtuosic solos, all amply displayed on their forthcoming self-titled CD release, Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus. The heart of the band is the writing team of the three principals: the crystal clear voice of Dora Gholson, backed by legendary guitarist/producer Larry Baeder and famous French Rocker/Bassist Francois Gehin. The songs are in the great tradition of classic American songwriters. Influenced by old school R&B, Soul Music, Bluegrass, and Americana Rock, the music reflects its own unique, contemporary flavor.
“The MuseGurus have a universal appeal while staying true to their own sound.”—Michael Haskins

Guitarist/Producer/Songwriter Larry Baeder is the real deal. Here is a seasoned, legendary contemporary guitarist with such an impressive musical past that it’s difficult to verbally do justice to his multi-faceted talents and accomplishments. A simple look at his most recent endeavors reflect this diversity: his performance at the Apollo in NYC with Chuck Jackson, Ashford & Simpson and Smokey Robinson; his guitar work on GI Blythe’s recent compelling self-titled EP release, GI Blythe; his production of Jambalaya Brass Band’s well received CD It’s a Jungle Out There; and finally, Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus will be releasing their self-titled highly anticipated collaborative debut CD in the fall of 2011.
Berklee grad Larry Baeder is a gifted and virtuosic guitarist of significant depth, and one whose dizzying, dynamic musical career reads like a who’s who of authentic American music of the past thirty years. He has played guitar with jazz legends Jay McShann, Illinois Jacquet, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, and singer Diane “Mama” Rae. He has performed and recorded with jazz greats Jeremy Stieg and Eddie Gomez. Baeder has collaborated with Evidence recording artist Nora York, and legendary Canadian songwriter Jane Sibery. He also spent five years touring and recording with Capricorn recording artist James Montgomery. During that time Larry played with legendary blues artists Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Albert King, and Dan “Elwood Blues” Akroyd, while also producing tracks for several Boston artists. In the recording studio, the late Jimmy Miller, producer for The Rolling Stones, Steve Winwood, Traffic and Blind Faith, included Baeder on much of his later work. By the mid-eighties, Larry was recording sessions with Buddy Guy, James Taylor, and Carly Simon, as well as playing on jingles and film scores. Baeder has performed in Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Africa. In addition, he has strong ties to New Orleans and has frequently worked with piano genius Henry Butler as well as other NOLA musicians including Ivan Neville, Brian Stoltz, Rebbecca Berry and Shannon Powell. He has worked with Blues legend Tracy Nelson and is a featured soloist on Heracio “El Negro” Hernandez and Robbie Ameen’s criticlly acclaimed CD Robbie and Negro from the Third World War. Baeder's 2000 solo-artist CD release Maximo Strut reached #5 on the Blues charts nationwide.
Michigan native Dora Gholson, songwriter, co-guitarist and lead vocalist for Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus, is a poetic lyricist and an astonishingly engaging singer. She can turn a one-syllable word into a five-syllable word that encompasses six notes and two octaves and has the vocal agility to sing all around the note and land squarely on pitch. To top it off, Gholson has a rich and heart-felt vocal sound which she employs in a skillful and soulful manner that remains with the listener long after the performance is over. She has been singing most of her life and professionally in the Key West area since 2006.
Francios Gehin, born and raised in Paris, is not only an incredibly disciplined musician on 7-string bass, but also brings savvy digital studio skills and brilliant engineering to Larry Baeder & The MuseGurus. He provides Gholson and Baeder a steady hand at the helm, both on stage and in the studio. With major credits as varied as opening for the Ramones in Brazil to the recording of three major label releases with French Rock band, Little Bob Story (with a ‘Record of the Week’ award from the British music magazine New Music Express), and a stint with Jimmy Vivino of the Conan O’Brian Show, his musicianship is now in high demand with visiting and local artists in the highly diverse Key West music scene.

GI BLYTHE PROVIDES ANOTHER FREE
SONG DOWNLOAD:  “LOST IN SPACE”

New York, NY, May 18, 2013—Following GI Blythe’s recent announcement to provide periodic free music downloads of songs from their successful CD release Lost in Space, and the offering of their first, “Run Rabbit Run,” they are now providing a second free song written by Geoff Blythe.

The band’s foundation is provided by drummer Crispin ‘the Pump’ Taylor and bassist Joe ‘Bear Claw’ Burcaw—and these guys cook!
