Jambalaya Brass Band to Perform Free Concert at the Goddard Community Center in NYC

Jambalaya Brass Band to Perform Free Concert
at the Goddard Community Center in NYC

In support of their latest CD release, On the Funky Side (currently charting on the CMJ and The Roots Music Report Charts), Jambalaya Brass Band will be performing a free concert at the Goddard Riverside Community Center/Bernie Wohl Center on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.  Jambalaya Brass Band’s previous CD, It’s a Jungle Out There, resulted in heavy broadcast radio rotation on eighty-five stations nationwide, as well as countless national and worldwide Internet radio stations, and charted in the top five of the CMJ Charts, The Roots Music Report and the Cashbox Charts.  This tight and tasty ensemble is the ultimate New Orleans party band which On The Funky Side reaffirms yet again with style and gusto, and Jambalaya Brass Band live is a flat-out celebration from start to finish.
At the Goddard Community Center, along with tunes from On the Funky Side and their previous successful CD It’s a Jungle Out There, Jambalaya Brass Band will be performing other original and New Orleans party and 2nd line favorites.  The band’s foundation will be provided by Ralph Hamperian on sousaphone, Kevin Raczka on snare drum, and Chauncey Yearwood on bass drum & cymbal—and this rhythm section cooks on high, so be sure to wear your dancing shoes!  Filling out this tasty gumbo and adding the spice on top will be the trombone of Curtis Fowlkes, the trumpet of Steve Gluzband, and the tenor sax of leader and founder Ric Frank, an alumnus of the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

" Jambalaya could stand side-by-side with . . . any New Orleans brass band in terms of sheer exuberance and energy . . . a party from start to finish."—Henry Smith for All About Jazz

The Jambalaya Brass Band is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive previous musical settings as diverse as the Duke Ellington Orchestra to the Lounge Lizards, yet they have a knack for integrating these disparate musical experiences into one dynamic setting.  These seasoned New York purveyors of authentic American ‘roots’ music play a delightful spicy musical gumbo of New Orleans fare influenced by the likes of Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Rebirth and Dirty Dozen brass bands, straight through to the heights of their own modern sounds that incorporate elements of R&B, Gospel, Funk, Latin and Be-bop.  They embody the history of the best American music of the last hundred years while at the same time suggesting a prescient trajectory of America’s musical future.  The Band’s arrangements are original and innovative while the playing is simultaneously precise and spontaneous, yet all is conceived with imagination and wit.  After-all, this is New Orleans party music and Jambalaya Brass Band is always a joyous musical celebration as they have proven on many occasions.

Playing On the Funky Side at a party is a sure bet, but seeing these talented players live really brings the party directly home to you.
